FAQS ON COLIE
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
WHERE DID THE NAME COLIE COME FROM?
Colie is a nickname for Nicole that a few of my friends would call me, but it hasn’t caught on to my family or other friends. Only a few people call me that and I find it to be a cute nickname.
WHAT MADE YOU START BLOGGING?
Blogging has given me a place to put all my inspirations on my fascination with style and beauty in one main place. I don’t remember the exact day I decided on blogging, but I picked it up on my own. My friends still find me a bit crazy for actually having a blog and following through with having one.
WHAT TYPE OF BLOG WOULD YOU LIKE YOURS TO BECOME?
I’d like my blog to become more about everyday style and beauty. I’d like this blog to inspire girls and women who may need help finding their individual style through my casual/relaxed looks. I want others to understand the importance of looking good and feeling good about themselves. Looking good is a step towards feeling good. I want to show these girls and women that you can have fun with fashion. I also want to promote a positive body image.
WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM OTHER BLOGGERS?
I think I can relate to a much wider audience than the other fashion bloggers who own much more clothing than the average person. I’m a college student, just like millions of others and need a budget friendly closet, along with mixing and matching what I already own. My blog isn’t all about name brands, but on quality vs. quantity or essentials. I think my blog is more for those who want to be eco-friendly, while still having their own style without breaking the bank. You can do a lot with what you already have. I recently viewed a documentary called True Cost on Netflix, about the fashion industry and was even more inspired to use what I already own, along with being more aware of what I buy. I’d like my blog to develop into more of a minimalist style/beauty blog.
WHAT IS YOUR LIFE MOTTO?
Less is more. I’ve heard this before, but it wasn’t until about a year ago that I looked into this saying. I’ve always been fascinated by the word happiness and the psychological viewpoint on how clothing affect us and others around us. I found the saying within the many books I read on the subject of happiness and was inspired. This motto doesn’t mean wearing revealing clothing, but wearing simple pieces and not over doing the outfit which then creates a look that is pleasing to the eye. Less is more also means that living with less actually helps us live life more and to be less materialistic. The more materialistic we are, the less happy we are. This has been proven in many psychology studies and that might shock most of us. By having less, we can focus on more. More of what we love, more on who we love, more on our passions in life. We can be happy with much less. Less is more.
WHAT’S A FASHION MUST-HAVE OF YOURS?
I would definitely have to say jeans. Yep, I said jeans! I love how they are so versatile and nowadays they have them in every color. I also like how you can dress them up with a button up shirt and a statement necklace, or dress them down with a striped tee and converse.
WHAT INFLUENCES YOU?
I’m inspired through Pinterest, Instagram, and a few YouTube and fashion bloggers. I also find inspiration through everyday people and notice the styles students wear at my university as well. I like to draw influence through my friends and family too, because most of them tend to enjoy the casual look and I try to achieve that in my blog as well.

WHO’S YOUR FAVORITE STYLE ICON? BEAUTY ICON? OTHERS?
I would have to say Lauren Conrad, Alexa Chung, Zoe Deschanel, the Olsen twins, and their sister Elizabeth Olsen. Bloggers I look up to are Trop Rouge, Sincerely Jules, Zoella, and Niomi Smart. My beauty icon is Bobbi Brown. I also look up to the twins in my state who run http://www.beautyredefined.net/ on self worth and the girls on http://www.bewisemagazine.com/. I’m one of the lucky members on the Be Wise Team! Go check them out:)
WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO OUTFIT?
Everything black. I would wear black skinnies with a long black tee and Chelsea boots. I like having a bit of a classic look, while also looking a bit edgy.
WHAT IS ESSENTIAL TO HAVING A BUDGET FRIENDLY WARDROBE?
Finding essentials since they tend to be more versatile. When you can wear one piece in many other outfits, that’s when you make it easier on yourself. Then, you can mix and match what you own and have multiple outfits within your wardrobe.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR BLOG IN 5 YEARS?
I would love to see myself still blogging about my style, along with giving personal advice to my viewers about fashion and beauty. I also would like to even become a personal shopper and makeup artist and feature the before and afters on my blog. I want my viewers to be comfortable in their own skin, so that they can accomplish what they want in life. This can start with feeling confident on appearance and that is only the beginning, but it’s a good start!
WHO TAKES YOUR PHOTOS?
I have my friends take them and I take pictures of them as well. I’ve always had a kind of niche for artsy things and have taken a photo class and many art classes which have turned photography into a hobby of mine. It’s pretty fun!
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU’RE NOT BLOGGING?
I’m the girl you’d find browsing through the magazine section at Barnes and Noble. I also like to catch up on the show New Girl and seeing the next chic-flic or comedy in the theater. I definitely enjoy shopping! I also am picking up more photography skills by taking more pictures than I ever have before. I used to dance, so I enjoy seeing dance concerts or my favorite bands or singers who come in town. I’m a college student and have a job too.

Seventeen, ever since I was 15. I have saved and collected all of the magazines ever since I received them in the mail.
