Hair care is not my strong suit! I definitely don’t enjoy doing hair. Ha! I’d like to think my hair is pretty healthy though, since I don’t dye it anymore and only occasionally blow dry it or use a straightener. Yet, I have flyaways. Anyone have this same tiny, minor detail with your hair? The reason I notice it most is because I generally have pretty flat, but thick hair and the flyaways and static are in the opposite direction. Haha! So, I’m always looking for a type of hair product to reduce the flyaways but still keep my hair from falling flat. That’s pretty difficult to ask, since most products are very hydrating or not moisturizing enough. I don’t want my hair to be weighed down, but instead lightly hydrated. With that, I’m still looking for that ideal combination, but I thought I’d share with you the hair care products I’m using right now that come close. Only thing I’m missing is a hair oil to apply onto the tips of my hair and top of my head to keep my locks healthy.
I’m all for products that are gentle on the skin, scalp, face, and body so I went on looking for a shampoo that was sulfate free. Sulfate is just a little more harsh on the skin, while other ingredients can be more gentle so I thought I’d give a sulfate free one a go. But, sulfate I think can be nice for those who tend to get an oily scalp pretty fast, which is also me. I just thought of trying out hair products that didn’t contain sulfate to see if I would prefer them over the sulfate shampoo. So far, I have mixed feelings about them. I don’t know if it’s just because I’m so used to using shampoo and conditioner from the drugstore where most contain sulfate and loads of other ingredients or what. Here are the products that I’m currently using and quite enjoying —
When I first tried out ACURE, I thought it was on the pricier side of the drugstore, but a great choice for cruelty free, vegan, and natural hair care. I think some brands go too above and beyond when thinking of creating a hair product that contains cleaner ingredients, as this lists loads of natural ingredients as if it’s actually really that much better for you than updated, modern synthetic ones which might do the same thing or even work better. I’m honestly looking for brands that use clean ingredients, but that doesn’t mean only natural since I know natural ingredients do not automatically equal better. But, I wanted to give ACURE a shot since the brand seemed to have good values.
Anyways, the hair products I tried from ACURE were the Argan shampoo and conditioner. I’ve been using it on and off for about a month and can definitely say it’s very hydrating! A little too hydrating for my hair, so I trade it off with my other shampoo and conditioner from Ogx. I would recommend this to someone who has really dry hair or scalp, since the argan oil does a great job at retaining moisture.
The Ogx Coconut Water is nice! It’s got a wonderful subtle fragrance of coconut to it, without it being overpowering. Since it doesn’t have sulfate, I thought it would make my strands super soft, but it doesn’t. It doesn’t make them super tangled, but I thought it would work better for some reason. I will be using this up, but once it’s gone I’ll probably go onto trying an alternative hair product. I just prefer one that keeps my hair soft, especially after showering since trying to brush through wet tangled hair is kind of a mess.
I use this as dry shampoo as it does the job and is inexpensive. It only has aloe vera, vitamin e and corn starch in it! Aloe is great for sensitive skin. I think this is the best product to use if you don’t want to spend extra on dry shampoo like me. It’s the last thing I want to spend my money on, but one that I might need every now and again if I want to skip a day or two of washing my hair. It’s got a white residue like most dry shampoos so you just have to make sure to pat it in your hair enough to let it sink in and not be visible. I think it works and if you don’t mind the very slight scent of the powder, it’s a great option!
Oh my goodness! I was sent this Aquis hair towel from Influenster last year and can’t get enough of it! It’s such a convenient hair towel to use right out of the shower. I was used to only having my shower towel and wrapping it on my head, but luckily this is specifically designed for that. I love having it on while I apply my makeup, so that my hair stays out of the way. I would highly recommend this to anyone, especially if you have long hair as it keeps your hair away from your face so you can have time to get ready before doing your hair. I want to use this for the rest of my life! I’ll buy another one once this one has been over used since I like it so much!
Side Note: If I haven’t washed my hair for the day, I use this orange headband to pull my hair back to do my makeup. I honestly have had it forever, but it’s nice as it moves my hair out of the way.
