There are so many different ways to remove makeup or cleanse your face, but what about an all-in-one? That too! Most of you may have heard of micellar water, but for those of you who haven’t or have yet to try it out, I’m here to let you know some details.

For me, it’s all about functional and simple beauty products. Micellar water does just that! Also, I highly recommend using a gentle tool to remove your makeup and clean your skin and for me that’s the Face Halo. I’ll get more into that after I mention how micellar water is so easy to use!

Real quickly, I want to let you know my general method for finding a product that works best for me. I have quite a few preferences to check off my list in finding a good makeup remover and cleanser, as well as for other skin care products. These usually include containing ingredients:

  • beneficial to skin for particular concern ex: hyaluronic acid for moisturizing
  • catered towards skin type — sensitive, oily, acne ex: aloe vera for sensitive skin

Not containing:

  • parabens
  • sulfates
  • fragrance
  • or other commonly known irritant ingredients (I sometimes refer to this list by Beauty Counter, but I acknowledge that most products on the market are relatively safe)

Not all are mandatory, but they are ideal. I prefer having most products that are geared towards sensitive skin as I’ve become more educated on skin care products that seem to be better for my skin type. In most cases, these same products also tend to work great with oily prone and acne prone skin.

Why micellar water?

Quick note: I use the micellar water from Simple Skincare, but most others are quite similar. Choose one of your choice if you’re considering using micellar water.

Checks most if not all of the boxes, while also being extremely convenient. All you need to do to remove your makeup and clean your face is apply micellar water to your removing cloth, lightly circle the cloth around your face to remove makeup, no rinsing needed. Micellar water removes dirt and makeup, while also hydrating! It’s like a remover and moisturizer, if not toner all-in-one. Super easy! Gentle enough for sensitive skin as it claims to not contain any harsh ingredients. Has Vit B3 and C, which are known to be healthy for skin.

Using micellar water makes my skin care routine a little bit faster before I head to bed. It’s also quite inexpensive, gentle on my skin while also being hydrating, and doesn’t have to be washed off like most face washes/cleansers. If there isn’t a reason to use micellar, I can’t think of any!

What about Face Halo?

I wanted to switch to makeup remover pads that lasted longer as a replacement for disposable cotton balls or wipes. My now go-to removing cloth is the Face Halo thanks to an insta post by gococollective for informing me about how amazing they are. Check out their website for more inspo! I had to give the Face Halo a try! Sure, there are many other types or brands catering to the same thing, such as the makeup eraser or whatnot, but this one seemed promising. It is! I’ve used it for about a week now and can gladly say I’ll be using them from now on for as long as I can or want!

Here’s the break down. Face Halo is a makeup remover pad created with microfiber, can withstand about 200 washes, only need to add water. Now, the reason I use micellar water in most cases along with the Face Halo is because micellar water will cleanse and hydrate the skin, while the Face Halo is catered towards removing makeup. I want to tackle both at once and luckily can do that with these two.

I can’t stress enough how more environmentally friendly the Face Halo is from the conventional disposable wipes or cotton pads. It’s definitely up to you with which you prefer, but if you have any concern for the environment, this is an easy alternative. No need to go crazy and never purchase anything disposable, as that is quite difficult. Not impossible, but difficult.

I’m here to help make things easier to transition from a consuming and throw away culture in the US, to a more conscious consuming nature and consideration of the environment, the people who make the products — humanity, and your own well being — happier, healthier life.

I like focusing on the positives with all my reviews, but need to mention some of the downsides of products as well so I can provide you a more accurate description. Pertaining to the Face Halo, when I wash it in the washing machine the color of my mascara doesn’t fully disappear. This could be due to the mascara I have, but I want to mention that just in case you want to know. It doesn’t mean the Face Halo isn’t clean, as I hand washed it a few times too. I highly recommend the Face Halo either way!

Extra: You may be wondering what the gray bottle is too! I’m using the Honest Beauty Elevated Hydration Replenishing Mist bottle to hold some micellar water as I love using the spray part to apply micellar water on my face, then using the Face Halo to remove makeup. I just enjoy how the Honest Beauty mist has such a nice spraying applicator that isn’t like a spray bottle as it more evenly distributes the liquid. I also enjoyed the toner, but I used it all and wanted to keep the bottle because of the spray applicator.
